Our employees regularly participate in professional and trade organizations and technical committees through corporate or individual membership. These organizations collectively address common interests on behalf of EEI and other members and advocate for the industry. Our involvement ensures us a voice in industry and government and keeps us on the leading edge of developments for our clients.

American Gas Association (AGA)
Founded in 1918, the American Gas Association is the national trade association representing energy companies that deliver natural gas in the U.S. AGA members include local natural gas distribution companies (LDCs) in the U.S. as well as natural gas distributors, pipelines, marketers, and storage facilities in North America. American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers was founded in 1880 largely because of the need for standards to ensure safety, reliability, and consistency in mechanical production and machine design. Today, ASME’s codes and standards are used in over 100 countries and cover a range of engineering disciplines and processes. ASME offers professional development, holds technical conferences and workshops, publishes journal articles, and provides technical expertise to the federal government. Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN) & Comité Européen de Normalisation Électrotechnique (CENELEC)
Headquartered in Brussels, CEN & CENELEC are the official European bodies tasked with the development of European technical standards. These standards include the complete suite of standards used by the European energy sector. Internationally, CEN & CENELEC cooperate with ISO, ASME and ASTM with the goal of harmonizing standards for global implementation. EEI participates in CEN & CENELEC committee workshops where stakeholders provide input and share experiences on a wide range of standards, including smart metering, energy efficiency measurement and smart grid reference architecture. Common Ground Alliance (CGA)
Since 2000, the Common Ground Alliance has been recognized as the leading organization for promotion of damage prevention to underground facilities. By promoting damage prevention best practices through public awareness and research, the CGA’s goal is to ensure public safety, environmental protection, and integrity of infrastructure. European Technology Platform on Renewable Heating & Cooling (RHC-Platform)
Sponsored by the European Commission, the objective of the RHC-Platform is to define research priorities for renewable heating and cooling systems to further stimulate innovation in solar thermal, geothermal, bio-methane and heat pump technologies. The RHC-Platform also facilitates public-private partnerships and consistent policy among European Union (EU) member countries. RHC-Platform members include Europe’s premier universities, manufacturers, and energy utilities. EEI participates in a RHC-Platform working group tasked with evaluating the most effective channels for natural gas utilities to implement renewable heating technologies. Gas Pipeline Technology Committee
The Gas Pipeline Technology Committee is formally known as ANSI ASC Z380 (American National Standards Institute; Accredited Standards Committee Z380) under the secretariat of the American Gas Association. GPTC develops and publishes the Guide for Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems (ANSI Z380.1), which provides assistance to natural gas pipeline operators in complying with the Code of Federal Regulations: 49 CFR 191 (Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline: Annual Reports, Incident Reports, and Safety-Related Condition Reports) and 49 CFR 192(Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline: Minimum Federal Safety Standards). Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM)
IGEM, first known as the British Association of Gas Managers, has evolved throughout the 20th Century since its first incarnation in 1863. IGEM is the leading British association of gas professionals with a broad international membership. IGEM develops technical standards and codes of practice which establish the engineering and safety guidelines for UK gas network operators and end-users. IGEM technical standards are recognized internationally and they are adopted by premier gas companies in Asia, Middle East and Latin America. NACE International (NACE)
Founded in 1943 as the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, NACE International is the world’s largest organization dedicated to the study of corrosion. NACE develops standards for corrosion prevention and control and provides training and certification in technical specialties for a range of industries, including chemical processing, water, transportation and infrastructure.
